Why this order
The pages move from foundations to observation and then to practice, so each step gives the next one a clear context.

Open the final step
This path follows ingredients, production, and places around the Bay; it is not a weekend itinerary. It begins with La Victoria SF so San Francisco bread does not collapse into sourdough alone: a Mission panaderia makes migration, family labor, production infrastructure, and neighborhood continuity visible before the path turns to the city's sour loaf. The Ferry Building is a merchant hall in a landmark the marketplace dates to 1898 1. The outdoor certified market on that waterfront is Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, not the indoor shops; Civic Center produce is Heart of the City Farmers Market. From there the path can fork: Cowgirl Creamery (historical shop, living creamery), Straus Family Creamery on the Marin–Sonoma line, Sonoma County wine and dairy, cooperative baking at Arizmendi Bakery (9th Avenue), or the long commercial sour loaf at Boudin Bakery. Neighborhood grocery: Bi-Rite Market. East Bay produce: Berkeley Bowl. East Bay retail bread: La Farine. Petaluma hearth: Della Fattoria.
