About Gourmet Gastronomer

Learn enough about food that the world of food becomes more interesting, understandable, navigable, and delicious.

Wheat heads: the grain behind bread flour, not a specific mill’s variety.

Gourmet Gastronomer is a long-lived food knowledge platform: encyclopedia, practical skills library, industry reference, and San Francisco / Bay Area food atlas. Entries are files with stable identifiers. Relationships use those identifiers, not URLs.

It is not a conventional food blog, not a recipe-ad farm, and not a marketing site. Atlas records are knowledge about craft in place. They are not a business directory: we omit hours and telephone numbers because they rot.

The idea predates Sour Flour. Sour Flour later became a real-world expression of the bread portion of this project — learning a craft and teaching it in San Francisco. Gourmet Gastronomer remains independent encyclopedia work. Lineage is recorded atGourmet Gastronomer and Sour Flour; it is not a storefront and it is not in the main navigation.
