Arizmendi Bakery (9th Avenue)

Arizmendi on 9th Avenue is a neighborhood bakery whose ownership structure is the food story. The shop’s site identifies a worker-owned cooperative at 1331 9th Avenue, between Irving and Judah, specializing in morning pastries, artisan breads, and pizza, two blocks from Golden Gate Park ¹. It lists sister cooperatives that are independently operated — including The Cheeseboard in Berkeley — with different hours and products ¹. Hours are omitted here on purpose.

Cheese Board Collective describes itself as a worker-owned co-op since 1971, with a cheese shop that became a bakery and pizzeria ². Arizmendi bakeries are the spread of that cooperative baking model across the Bay Area, not a chain with a single owner. The name points at José María Arizmendiarrieta and Mondragon; this page does not retell Basque industrial history.
